• Financial / Capital markets : PATRI was retained to educate legislators on the negative economic impacts to the Brazilian capital markets in the case a proposed bill that would have increased the tax burden on share trades passed in the Congress. Ultimately, the bill’s final text excludes stock exchange operations from being subject to additional taxation.
• Franchising / Retail : PATRI performed an in-depth study and supplied recommendations on the potential negative impacts of a proposed bill changing Brazil’s franchising legislation.
• Manufacturing : A large tire manufacturing company faced a crisis situation abroad and PATRI preventively recommended and implemented a strategy to address the problem in Brazil, saving the company millions of dollars in potential legal and compensation fees.
• Medical : PATRI helped a NGO in designing and implementation of a strategy to educate members of the Brazilian Congress on the positive impacts of stem cell research. The bill – which included provision to allow the use of stem cells for medical research purposes – was approved by congress.
• Intellectual Property : PATRI developed extensive work on anti-piracy and intellectual property rights (IPR) issues in Brazil. The combined proactive and educational advocacy efforts resulted in a parliamentary inquiry commission, exclusively dedicated to anti-piracy initiatives by the Brazilian authorities. The final report with the findings of the commission were presented to both Brazilian and US government officials, and helped raise important awareness to the damaging economic effects of pirated and counterfeit products in the country.
• Defense : PATRI has helped the defense industry contractors to better understand the complex political and regulatory environment in the country. PATRI also assisted in the implementation phase of the various projects by acting as a liaison and facilitating communications between the different branches of government and the armed forces.
